Dry Rooms Project at Protonic Holland

2 Walk-In Dry Rooms

Protonic develops and produces electronics for intelligent machines and devices in various markets.

Zwaag
The Netherlands

Protonic works with trolleys holding 6 PCB racks. These trolleys didn’t fit into the Drying Cabinets.

The PCBs no longer have to be removed from the racks but can be dried directly on trolleys that fit in the new Dry Rooms.

The challenge

Before the installation of the Totech Walk-in Dry Rooms at Protonic, all PCBs were manually unloaded from PCB racks and put into special trays that fitted inside the Totech Drying Cabinets, where they were dried prior to the production process. Protonic works with trolleys holding 6 PCB racks and wanted to optimize this manual drying process to reduce handling time.

The Result

Because the Walk-In Dry Rooms guarantee the same conditions as the drying cabinets (40-60°C and safe storage <5%RH) but have more space and are easy to access, the element of human handling has been taken out of the production process. The PCBs no longer have to be removed from the PCB racks but can be dried directly on trolleys.

Up to 6 PCB racks fit on each trolley and each Walk-in Dry Room can accommodate 6 trolleys. One Dry Room is for drying with conditions of 60ºC and RH of <1% and the second room is used for the storage of the PCBs under conditions of 40ºC and a RH of <5%. This saves a lot of time and makes the entire production process more efficient.

About Protonic

Protonic develops and produces electronics for intelligent machines and devices in various markets. Set up as an industrial automation company in 1972, over the years, focus shifted to electronics for the control of a wide variety of automated machines, instruments and equipment. At Protonic you can count on reliable advice based on an extensive knowledge base and many years of practical experience. Protonic was one of the first companies in the Netherlands to receive an ISO 9001 certificate from DEKRA.

Protonic is equipped to handle the entire production process, from assembly of electronics products to shipment of packaged products. That way, they can efficiently offer their customers not only the highest quality, but added value through additional services.

Storage of moisture sensitive components

The safe storage and maintenance of moisture-sensitive components and PCBs are also important aspects of the production process. To guarantee the reliability and quality of their products Protonic uses the knowledge and storage solutions of Totech. To store components & PCB’s under the right conditions Protonic chose two Walk-In Dry Rooms from our SDR Series. These modular enclosures are ideal for their trolleys with PCB racks. The energy efficient dual wall insulated steel construction makes them perfect for drying at 40-60°C <1% as well as unlimited safe storage <5%RH.

“After years of using Totech drying cabinets, we have again opted for a tailor-made solution for drying rooms from Totech because of their reliability.”
