Dry Storage for so much more than electronics …..
As the electronics industry’s leading MSD handling specialist, we’re committed to delivering the dry storage solutions you need to protect your production environment. But not only global electronics manufacturers need to defend moisture sensitive devices against potentially costly defects. End user applications reach across a large variety of different industries, such as laboratories, medical, dental, contact lens, biotechnology, lithium ion batteries and the media and film industry. We know that accurate and constant humidity control is the answer, and have what it takes to safeguard your ongoing productivity.
Many medical devices may not function correctly if they have been exposed to high levels of humidity. High levels of humidity may cause instruments to operate in unexpected or unusual ways, reduce shelf-lives or totally destroy products.
Medical electronics manufacturers of products such as implants, hearing aids, pacemakers, etc. have been protecting devices for many years using Totech products. Berlin headquartered Biotronik, maker of stents, implantable defibrillators and remote monitoring services is a global company also with manufacturing in the US, and is a significant customer for XSD/MSD/XSDV machines with almost 20 in operation in their facility.
But other medical applications for dry storage are not electronics assembly. In biotechnology, flow cytometry is a laser- or impedance-based, biophysical technology employed in cell counting, cell sorting, biomarker detection and protein engineering. Totech XSD cabinets have enabled acceleration of the associated production process.
Lithium ion batteries to power cardiac pacemakers and other medical implants are another significant and evolving market. Lithium reacts violently to water, and so dry manufacturing environments are of paramount importance. Like some other industries, environmental performance is measured in dew point not RH. The specs required can be in the region of minus 40F or a temperature maintained at ambient or below, which can be readily accommodated by the Super Dry XSDC cabinet.
Another of the medical and non-electronic assembly markets for whom safe storage is essential is the non-invasive products that replace eye drops and provide sustained therapy for major eye diseases including glaucoma, dry eye, and allergy.
Last but not least, fiber laser technology. Legacy lasers are bulky, inefficient and short lived devices which are difficult to assemble and require frequent service. Fiber lasers, on the other hand, are compact, highly efficient and robust devices which offer service-free operation through the entire application lifetime. Thus, they are finding great success for medical applications including ophthalmology, dermatology, surgery and dentistry. The optical fibers require dry environments for which our low-humidity storage cabinets are the perfect solution.
